All Shipping practices in the United Arab Emirates are governed by
the UAE Federal Law No. 26 of 1981 (known as the "Maritime Code").

There are seven Emirates in the United Arab Emirates:
Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.
The law is applicable to all the Emirates of the UAE. The law is based on modern international law
and maritime principles set out in International Conventions.
It is also very similar to the maritime laws of the other
Arabian Gulf Co-operation Council ("GCC") States (other than Saudi Arabia).

This website is designed in a question and answer format on matters related to cargo claims,
arrest of ships and judicial sale of ships under the UAE Maritime Code.
It does not aim to provide specific legal advice on individual matters.
